Treatment with SPRAVATO®
Monarch Psychiatric Services is a certified SPRAVATO® treatment center.
SPRAVATO® (esketamine) is used to help patients with depression when other medications have not been fully effective. SPRAVATO® works differently than other medications for treatment-resistant depression. Today’s most commonly used oral antidepressants are thought to treat depression by increasing levels of neurotransmitters (serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine) in areas of the brain that affect mood. SPRAVATO® targets the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor and is believed to work differently than currently available oral antidepressants.
The exact way that SPRAVATO® works is unknown but recent studies suggest that it helps the brain to restore neural connections that may be lost due to depression. SPRAVATO® is taken with an oral antidepressant. It is FDA approved for treatment resistant depression and it is covered by most major insurance plans.
Your Monarch Psychiatric Services provider can assess if SPRAVATO® is a good treatment option for you. This medication is a nasal spray that must be administered here in our clinic under the supervision of your provider. Please check out the additional information on this new medication option below.
Genetic Testing
Monarch Psychiatric Services is a Registered GeneSight Provider Site. GeneSight Psychotropic is a pharmacogenomic test which analyzes how your genes may affect medication outcomes. The GeneSight test analyzes clinically important genetic variations in your DNA. Results can inform your doctor about how you may break down or respond to certain medications commonly prescribed to treat depression, anxiety, ADHD, and other psychiatric conditions.
The GeneSight test can be ordered by your Monarch Psychiatric Services provider. The test is a simple cheek swab taken in our offices or it can be taken in the convenience of your home. The majority of the cost for this testing is covered by most insurance carriers.
Cognitive Testing
Monarch Psychiatric Services offers cognitive testing to assist in the diagnosis of ADHD, depression, anxiety, dementia and a number of other conditions that negatively impact daily functioning. This testing complements our clinical assessment and best of all, can be used to monitor improvement with treatment. The testing can be done in our offices or online from the comfort of your home. It is covered by most major health insurance plans. If you are interested in testing please give us a call or ask your Monarch provider.
